A greener future – Locally-led migration strategies

When it comes to addressing population decline, many regional and rural areas are doing it for themselves.

Several smaller communities have established their own migration strategies, including the following.

Mount Gambier

Locals have loved welcoming migrants to the community, many of whom settled here under the Australian Government’s Humanitarian Settlement Program 11 years ago.

Nhill’s locally-led migration program has seen the resettlement of 200 Burmese Karen refugees, who make up 10% of the town’s population.

Pyramid Hill

More than 100 Filipino families have been integrated into the Pyramid Hill community, where local businesses led migration initiatives to attract more workers to the area.
