Minister to outline Connections reset plan in Rochester

VICTORIAN irrigators are urged to attend a major water forum with Water Minister Lisa Neville at Rochester this Wednesday September 7.

Minister Neville will be joined by GMW Connections Project Director Frank Fisseler to provide an update on the State Government’s reset of the $2.1 billion Connections Project.

“Our Victorian Farmers Federation Water Forum is open to all farmers, whether you’re a member or not,” VFF Water Council Chairman Richard Anderson said.

“This is our opportunity to hear directly from the Minister what the reset will look like and ask questions.”

Mr Anderson said it was important irrigators attend to hear how project delivery will change going forward, consider the impact upon them and voice any concerns.

“As we’ve said before the $2.1 billion Goulburn-Murray Water Connections project was clearly in trouble and was struggling to connect irrigators and deliver water savings by the June 30, 2018 deadline,” Mr Anderson said.

“Now we as irrigators must ensure that what’s proposed is a workable approach that drives cost efficiency for the system as a whole and delivers fit-for-purpose connections for irrigators.”

The VFF hopes the Minister can outline how the reset plan prioritises future works on remaining channels and outlets and how landholders will be engaged.

The VFF Water Forum will be held at the Campaspe Golf Club, Cnr Northern Highway and Diggora Road, on Wednesday, September 7. 6:30 pm for 7:00pm start.

All farmers are welcome!
