Excellence in rural marketing celebrated through Agency Award

Nominations have opened for the 2017 ALPA Fairfax Media Agency Award. Now in its 13th year, this award seeks to promote the brightest upcoming marketing minds in the rural agency profession.

The award acknowledges an innovative marketing campaign that achieves the best outcome for the client.

This year, ALPA and Fairfax Media have expanded the nomination process to allow clients and members of the public to nominate an agent for the award. Mr Andy Madigan, ALPA CEO says “it stands to reason that clients should be given the opportunity to acknowledge the effort that their agent puts into achieving the best outcomes for them. An agent’s job is synonymous with marketing and we are proud to be able to showcase such enormous talent to the industry and wider agricultural community. We encourage anyone who knows of an agent who has developed a unique marketing concept that is resourceful and “outside the box” to nominate them for this award.”

This award was inaugurated in 2005 following the untimely death of Mr Mike Nixon Victorian Stock and Land rural journalist and livestock commentator. In recognition of Mike’s involvement with the agency industry the award was originally established to reward excellence in livestock marketing, but has now evolved to incorporate all facets of agency marketing including livestock, property, wool, merchandise, agronomy and insurance. The award process assesses a candidate’s expertise by focusing on innovative marketing, industry awareness, business relations and ethical behaviour and presentation and elocution, all qualities of a well-rounded marketing professional.

The ALPA & Fairfax Media Agency Award winner will walk away with a fully paid trip to the 2018 Calgary Stampede, offering them a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain exposure to international agricultural practices and providing them with unrivalled professional development. The 2016 recipient of the award, Alex Croker from H Francis & Co Wagga Wagga, said that “being presented this award was a highlight of my agency career. I would encourage anyone who knows young people in the industry to nominate them for this award.”

ALPA encourages all agents with less than 10 years industry experience to consider nominating. Candidates will provide submissions based on a marketing initiative they have executed and one final winner will be awarded the Mike Nixon Shield for Excellence in Marketing at the 2017 ALPA AGM in Adelaide.

Nomination forms and guidelines are available by contacting ALPA on (02) 9262 6633 or admin@alpa.net.au.
