George the Farmer releases two new books on National AgDay

In the lead up to National Agriculture Day on November 21st, 2019, George The Farmer has released two new picture books and aired two episodes on ABC ME.

George the Farmer, a Limestone Coast based team, are continuing their quest to raise national awareness on agriculture and its communities with the release of two new picture story books Egg Enigma and Drone Drama.

George the Farmer’s two new books have been aimed at educating children from a young age which which the team hopes will pay dividends in years to come for those involved in primary industries.

“It’s imperative that we increase conversations with children around how food is produced in a fun and light-hearted way to have any hope in bridging the gap between producer and consumer in the future,” said Simone Kain, author and co-creator of George the Farmer.

“The lack of conversations occurring now really is a major food security risk for our country — and others.”

The first of the new stories, Egg Enigma, follows George as he receives a delivery of chooks for his mobile chicken caravan. When the chooks fail to produce an abundance of eggs, George finds himself worrying about whether or not he’ll be able to produce another award-winning chocolate cake for the Penola Show bake-off.

“It’s a lot of fun creating stories that weave in aspects of our local area, our farm or our friends. Regional kids especially resonate with the story lines, but they’re fabulous as an educational tool for those children that don’t have a connection to the land,” said Ms Kain.

The second title, Drone Drama, combines new age technology with animals as George’s brand new drone suddenly disappears midway through mustering sheep towards the yards.

The two new titles bring the George the Farmer series of picture books to eight and co-creator Ben Hood said the feedback thus far has been inspiring.

“We’ve had so much positive feedback on the announcement of the two new titles. It’s heartwarming to see young kids — and their parents — super excited about new books being available on the topic of agriculture,” said Mr Hood.

In the lead up to National AgDay, ABC ME aired two George the Farmer paddock-to-plate videos on potato and wheat production which can be viewed on ABC iView here.
