Getting more regional people connected is one aim of a new partnership between the National Farmers’ Federation and NBN Co, the company building the nbn™ access network.
The majority of regional Australians can now access high speed internet via a range of nbn connection options including the Sky Muster™ satellite service.
NFF President Fiona Simson said informing regional Australians, including farmers, about their connectivity options was key.
Unlocking the productivity gains on offer from better connectivity is key to the future growth of our farm sector.
“We are pleased to be working with NBN Co to better inform farmers of their connectivity options and the process for getting online.”

Through the NFF’s online platform, Australian Farmers, the peak body will work with NBN Co to publish engaging content including videos, podcasts and factsheets about the network’s availability and capability.
Ms Simson said following connectivity advice, the next step in the partnership would be to ‘unpack’ the potential of a more connected farm.
The NFF and NBN Co will be highlighting the technologies solutions available to farmers, once they have a high-speed, reliable internet connection.
“This can be as simple as online banking or weather monitoring or as transformational as connecting sensors to watering points or remote cameras for security and pest animal surveillance.
The collaboration will also develop a squad of ‘connectivity champions’ who will share their connectivity success with farmers across the nation.
“There are already many farmers taking their connectivity to new heights through the application of new technologies that are increasing their productivity and efficiency,” NBN Co’s Head of Stakeholder Relations and Regional Media, nbn™ local, Sam Dimarco said.
“We’ll be identifying these farmers who can pass on their wisdom and know-how to their fellow producers with the vision to see more farmers realise the benefits of connected-technologies.”
“The NFF is the peak body representing Australian farmers and one of Australia’s most trusted organisations in Australia -we see a great opportunity to increase regional Australians understanding of their internet options and their potential once connected.”
